Kathrine's Photo Album

A sequence of photos showing a special Boston Marathon liftout from the April 2004 edition of Runners World, together with a photo of Kathrine in front of a street poster at the 2004 Boston Marathon

At the 2004 Boston Marathon, Kathrine Switzer was featured in a Boston city-wide adidas ad campaign. The dynamic image of an official trying to eject her from the 1967 Boston Marathon just because she is female is a highlight of the "Impossible is Nothing" theme. Ads are on road signs, bus shelters, subway stations, and giant billboards. Shown here is Kathrine running by the sign at Back Bay train station and the wrapped Pine Street Tower building below.

Ruth Orkin was the famous New York photographer who took the photo of Kathrine in 1974 that is used in the book; Mary is Ruth's daughter.

Game Face-What Does A Female Athlete Look Like? is a traveling photographic exhibition and educational resource sponsored by Oppenheimer Funds, Inc. and Mass Mutual Financial Group. From April 14- June 14 the exhibition is on display at the Winter Garden at the World Financial Center, New York City. It is free and open to the public.

Kathrine Switzer (far left) 1974 New York City Marathon winner, was one of the honored guests at the New York Road Runners Club Night in March. Pictured with her are next left to right: Michael Konig, 30-time finisher of NYC Marathon; Abe Weintraub, oldest finisher; Pat Petersen, local top performer; Gary Muhrcke, 1970 winner; Billie Moten, 24-time finisher; and Anne Marie Lauck, local NY top performer and Olympian.

This adidas shoe was manufactured especially to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Boston Marathon. Kathrine was given a pair of the shoes, signed both of them and sent this one to her friends Susan and John Gallagher, of Gallagher Sports in Salem, Oregon as thanks for all they have done in starting women running. Susan Gallagher, normally a short distance runner, ran her first marathon in the spring of 2004!
